ABOUT US
Learn about our roots, mission, vision, and the principles that guide our work in the Detroit community. The babies are the greatest.
OUR FOUNDATION
Everything we do centers on our children. They are our future Gods and Earths, and every program, every event, every resource is built to ensure they rise.
D-Mecca Cipher exists to uplift youth and communities through education, cultural awareness, conflict resolution, and access to vital resources. Rooted in the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths (Allah's 5%), we work to reduce violence, promote peace, and build self-sufficient leaders in Detroit. Our children come first in everything we do.
Our vision is a community where youth understand their history, practice self-discipline, resolve conflict peacefully, and develop the skills needed to become productive leaders, entrepreneurs, and responsible citizens. We envision a Detroit where every child has access to knowledge of self and the tools to build a prosperous future.

OUR HISTORY
The Nation of Gods and Earths was founded in 1964 in Harlem, New York by Father Allah, formerly known as Clarence 13X. After leaving the Nation of Islam's Temple No. 7, Father Allah took the teachings to the streets of Harlem, directly educating the youth — the so-called “uncivilized” — in Supreme Mathematics, Supreme Alphabet, and the 120 Lessons. His mission was clear: the Black man is God, the Black woman is Earth, and the babies are the greatest. He believed that knowledge should not be confined to temples but should be freely given to the people, especially the young.
Throughout the late 1960s and 1970s, the teachings of the Five Percent spread rapidly across New York City and beyond. Young Gods and Earths carried the lessons to every borough, then to cities across the East Coast and eventually nationwide. The culture influenced music, art, language, and community organizing. Ciphers — gatherings where knowledge is shared — became the backbone of the movement, creating spaces for education, debate, and unity wherever they formed.
Detroit, known within the Nation as “D-Mecca,” has been home to a vibrant and dedicated community of Gods and Earths for decades. The name “D-Mecca” reflects Detroit's significance as a center of knowledge, culture, and community building in the Midwest. The D-Mecca Cipher represents the collective body of Gods and Earths in the Detroit metropolitan area who come together to teach, learn, and build.
The Gods and Earths arrived in Detroit during a time of great social upheaval. The city was still reeling from the 1967 rebellion, and Black communities were searching for identity, purpose, and self-determination. The teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths provided exactly that — a framework for understanding self, community, and the world rooted in mathematics, science, and cultural pride.
Early Gods in Detroit held ciphers in parks, community centers, barbershops, and homes. They taught Supreme Mathematics and Supreme Alphabet to anyone willing to learn. They organized youth programs, study groups, and community events. Over the years, the D-Mecca Cipher grew into one of the most active and respected communities of Gods and Earths in the Midwest.
The D-Mecca Street Academy was established as the educational arm of this work — a structured institution dedicated to bringing the principles of the Nation of Gods and Earths into real-world action. Through youth education, conflict resolution, cultural programming, and community service, the Street Academy has become a cornerstone of positive change in Detroit.
